Access via proxy

If you need access to the electronic library resources when you’re not at the campus-network, we can offer you a solution via our proxy-server. To get access to the library-resources as full text journals etc., you need two things:

1.  You need a username/password. Employees will get the username/password from the department of Human Resources. Students can use the studentnumber as username and their own picked password.
2.  You have to do some changes in your browser-settings (see below) so you can connect to the proxy-server.

Firefox (version 2.0.0.15)

1.  Click on <Tools>, <Options>, <Advanced> and <Network>
2.  In the Network-window, you must look for «Connection» and «Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet». Click on <Settings>
3.  Mark the radio-button «Manual proxy configuration:»
4.  In «HTTP Proxy» type: proxy.hig.no
5.  In «Port» type: 1080
6.  Click «OK» and go back to the browser window.
7.  Go to http://www.hig.no/ Now you will be asked for your usersname/password.
8.  At the library-site (http://www.hig.no/bibliotek), choose «Databaser». Here you’ll find all the databases we offer.

Windows Internet Explorer (version 7.0.5730.11)

1.  Click on <Tools>, <Internet Options>, <Connections> and <LAN settings>.
2.  In the window called «Local Area Network (LAN) setting» look for «Proxy server».
3.  You must mark for «Use a proxy server for you LAN .....»
4.  In «Adress» type: proxy.hig.no
5.  In «Port» type: 1080
6.  Click «OK» and go back to the browser-window.
7.  Go to http://www.hig.no/. Now you will be asked for your username/password.
8.  At the library-site (http://www.hig.no/bibliotek), choose «Databaser».Here you’ll find all the databases we offer.

Proxy for Mac

Safari (version 5.0.3.)

1. Open the Safari browser
2. Choose "options"/"valg"
3. Open the "Advanced"/"Avansert" tab
4. Click "change settings"/"endre instillinger" behind the word "proxy"
5. Check "webproxy (http)" and a form will appear
6. Write: proxy.hig.no in field number 1. Write: 1080 in field number 2
7. Check "The proxy server requires a password"
8. Type inn your HIG username and password and click ok.
9. You will find our databases at the library website (www.hig.no/biblioteket)
