Aim

The students:
- acquire understanding of basic problems concerning calculation of forces, stresses and deformations of structures
- develop ability to use calculation methods to solve new kinds of problems

The students:
- explain basic principles
- understand when methods may be used / may not be used
- show ability to use their understanding to solve problems

Content

- Bending moment, shearing force and normal force
- Shear stress
- Principal stresses and Mohr diagram
- Deformations: Slope and displacement by integration
- Statically indeterminate structures
- Internal virtual work and plastic hinges
