Course Description BYG3071 - Steel and Timber Design (2003/2004)

To enhance knowledge in the design of steel and timber structures.
To enable the students to utilize the structural building codes in the design of structures.

Part 1: STEEL DESIGN according to NS 3472
- Joints and connections – bolted and welded.
- Bracing – design. Tortional buckling.
- Fire design. Class 4 cross sections.
Part 2: TIMBER DESIGN according to NS 3470.
- Connections. Tapered, curved and pitched cambered beams.
- Bracing design. Holes in glue-laminated members.
- Fire resistance of timber members.
