Course Description BYG3121 - Highway Design (2005/2006)

Main objective:
-The students acquire overview for the subject, suitable for professional judgements and comunication

The students learn to:
- make substantial selection of alternative traces and describe the main components of traffic- system
- Define and understand the effect of basic parameters for route location and geometric design
- Describe the traffic noice problem, and carry out simple estimation
- Describe the main components of the highway subgrade structure and construction of the roadway
- Use the existing law, and mandatory standards concerning roads and trafic

- Consequence analysis: Methodesfor cost/ benefit - calculation and evaluation of effect and impact of highway projects on nature and society
- Construction of allignment: Selection of correct parameters and standard requirements for routesurveying and terrain adaption
- Calculation of traffic noise: Spreading, and calculation methode
- Roadway design using mandatory standards
- The prevailing laws and mandatory standards
