Course Description ELE8011 - Medical Imaging and Information Systems. (2003/2004)

Give the student a theoretical and practical knowledge of the technical properties and quality considerations of equipment for grabbing, storing/archiving and transmitting digital medical images, including consideration of the ethical and legal aspects as well as consequences for the health sector.


- Quality considerations of digital images (in relation to noise, viewing conditions, CRT screen calibrations, image compression, eye sensitivity, etc.)
- Transmission protocols and standards (Dicom).
- Medical information- and image databases: PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems), RIS (Radiographic Information Systems), HIS (Hospital Information Systems).
- Tele-medicine, tele-radiology and data security.
- Performance specifications and purchase considerations.
