Aim

The students will get an understanding of the principles in terms of consistent and accurate colour reproduction for a variety of media substrates. Furthermore, they shall be able to proficiently apply colour management techniques in the context of graphic design and media production. The students shall also have a good working knowledge of how to use colours as aesthetic and semantic means in design. Finally, the students will be familiar with the basic physiological, physical and chemical conditions of light and colour as human experience.

Content

The subject consists of 3 modules:
1. Colour management
2. The use and semantics of colours
3. The phenomenology of light and colour

AssessmentEssay (counts 30%)
Portfolio Assessment (counts 30%, evaluated by lecturer)
Written Exam, 3 hours (counts 40%, evaluated by lecturer and an examiner)
Each part must be individually approved of.
Assessment of Essay in Module 1 counts 15 % and assessment of Essay in Module 2 counts 15 %. Written Exam in Module 1 and 2.
Grading SystemAlphabetical Scale, A (best) - F (fail)

Exercises = laboratory exercises in module 1 that have to be approved in order to be allowed to take the exam.
