Aim

The course will provide knowledge of printed products and of the processes related to paper oriented production. The students will get an overview of important parameters for the reproduction of images, graphics and text in the printing process. They will acquire knowledge of manuscript editing and the processing of images and graphics.

Content

Module A  Typography:
Graphic communication: introduction.Copy-editing and punctuation. Hyphenation and justification. Typefaces and detail in typography.  The history of type and typography. The architecture of the book. Pagination: topic structure versus artefact structure. Page layout. Access-structure and navigation.  

Module B  Digital Image Reproduction:
The human vision, colours, colour metrics, colour measurement, image reproduction technology, prepress, cross-media reproduction, colour management, image quality assessment.

Module C  Printing and Finishing:
The development within printing and finishing, printing methods, printing form presentation, printing press structure, proofing, finishing and bookbinding, materials used in graphic production.
