Course Description MAS1001 - Design Materials (2003/2004)

The aim of the course is to provide a basic understanding of the relationship between structure, properties, selection and processing and of engineering materials.

- Metallographic methods
- Phases and phase coordination diagrams, alloys, solifidication
Module 2 (1ects):
- Deformation of metals and alloys
- Methods of strengthening metals, kinetics
- Stress relief, recrystallization
Module 3 (1ects):
- Mechanical properties, destructive testing
- Non destructive testing
Module 4 (1ects):
- Ferrous and nonferrous engineering alloys
- Heat treatment of steel, theoretical basis
- Aluminium and aluminium alloys
