The students are expected to become familiar with the physics of electricity, magnetism, oscillations and waves, at the conceptual and problem-solving level.


Review - vectors; complex exponential functions; Newton's 2nd law
Electricity - Coulomb's, Gauss', Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws; electric fields and potentials
Magnetism - Magnetic flux and fields; Lorentz force; Biot-Savart's, Ampere's, Lenz' and Faraday's laws; Ferromagnetism
Waves and oscillations - free, damped and forced oscillations, propagating and standing waves
Differential equations - first and second order; wave equation
