Course Description REA1051 - Mathematics 15 - Linear Algebra and Discrete Mathematics (2003/2004)

The course will give the students knowledge and understanding of the concepts, symbols, problems and solving methods of discrete mathematics and present the fundamentals of linear algebra. an understanding of mathematical words, phrases, symbols and problems in discrete mathematics and to present the fundamentals in linear algebra and multivariable functions.


Matrices and linear algebra:
Matrix operations, evaluating determinants and rank, solving systems of linear equations with Gaussian elimination and with inverse matrices, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalisation, vector spaces, linear independence, basis and dimension, linear transformations.
Set theory and Propositional Logic : Concepts and principles.
Combinatorics: Permutations, binomial coefficients, Newton’s binomial formula.
Functions of two variables: Partial differentiation, max./min. problems.
