Aim | The aim of the course is to strengthen the student's mathematical background within selected topics.Mathematical modelling and practical use in engineering will be emphasized.Mathematical software (Matlab/Maple) may be used as a tool for an improved understanding of new concepts as well as solving computational problems. |
Content | The Laplace transform:Laplace transforms, inverse Laplace transforms, solving linear differential equations using Laplace, transfer functions, block diagrams, modelling of dynamic systems, simulation using Matlab/Maple, poles, zeros and the s-plane. Power series:Series, convergence, geometric series, Taylor and Maclaurin series, binomial series, convergence tests, linearization.Fourier series:Periodic functions, even and odd functions, Fourier series, half-range series, frequency response.Functions with two variables:Partial derivatives, drawing graphs, maximum and minimum problems in two variables, differentials. |
