Course Description REA2022 - Mathematics 20 - Electrical Engineering Mathematics (2005/2006)

The students shall be able to
- show knowledge and understanding of the course's subjects
- apply mathematical modelling in solving practical problems in technology
- use a mathematics software package (Maple) in problem solving and as a help in understanding concepts


Geometric series, series convergence, convergence tests, Taylor series, linearization.
Fourier series:
Periodic functions with an arbitrary period, odd and even functions, Fourier series, half-range periodic extension, frequency response.

The Laplace transform:
Definition and properties of the Laplace transform, inverse Laplace transforms, solving linear differential equations, transfer functions and block diagrams, dynamic modelling, poles, zeros and the s plane.
Difference equations:
Sequences, definitions, general and numeric solutions, block diagrams.
The z transform:
Definition and properties, sampling, inversion of z transforms, solving difference equations.
